For those who enjoy a breath of fresh air on a sunny day, a digest of opportunities for family friendly strolls of various lengths, all starting within a half hour drive of Knowle. For convenience they are listed from shortest to longest. Distances are shown from Knowle Parish Church via the shortest route.


Tamworth Castle and Gardens

On a sunny day, even if the rural footpaths will be damp, the centre of Tamworth offers a pleasant and varied day out, strolling on paved surfaces. It provides a delightful waterside and sculpture park stroll, along with options for a tour of the castle as well as nearby restaurants and shops.


Ryton Pools Country Park

Ryton Pools Country Park, in the heart of Warwickshire and just half an hour from Knowle, is a great place to visit all year round, whether for springtime bluebells in the woods, summer fun in the sun, autumn colour reflected in the water or a winter walk on solid ground.


Brueton, Bullrushes and Blythe

This is a cracking and varied  stroll, which starts and finishes in Solihull’s most popular park, is one for when the ground is drier. From late April to mid May it is enhanced, as the route enters the riverside woods, by a carpet of vibrant bluebells at their best.


Historic Castle Bromwich

This short stroll around the historic heart of the village, sitting high above a natural crossing point on the river Tame, where the jewels in its crown reach back to the 16th and 17th centuries, when the Devereux and then Bridgeman families, between them, built the Hall and rebuilt the church.


The Stratford Canal from Illshaw Heath

This pleasant stroll which offers refreshment opportunities half way at Lady Lane Wharf or at the end at Wedges Bakery. It sets off across the local fields before tracking back along the Stratford-upon-Avon Canal, opened in 1802.

This short stroll starting at the Wharf Tavern, which offers excellent end of walk refreshment, certainly packs in variety, covering village centre, suburban road, open field, dense and open woodland, a drawbridge and canal towpath.
